Starting A Travel Agency From Home

I used to think that having a travel agency is a cool thing. For me,being involve in it means you get the chance to travel the world and stay at various properties.

But meeting with my old friend recently who has been doing travel services for almost 15 years now have changed my perception. A conventional travel agency nowadays is not what it used to be.

He mentioned how his agency and other travel agencies have to compete with various other companies that offer travel related services such as hotel room, trips, cruises and even flight tickets. Competition is stiff and the profit margin is getting slimmer.

He mentioned that all types of businesses now are moving forward toward technology that is the Internet. Those who ignore the power of Internet will be left behind.

He also said that there is no such thing as a loyal customers nowadays because customers have so many choices and they will always go somewhere else that offer cheaper rates.

You rarely see people go to travel agency to book hotel rooms, flight tickets or travel packages anymore. People have even started doing DIY for umrah trips themselves.

Who needs a travel agent for booking hotel rooms when you have Agoda, Trivago, Booking.com, Hotel Combined etc. 

Who needs a travel agent to book  flight tickets when you can easily book via the online ticketing with cheaper prices at your own conveniences? Kayak and Wego for example allow people to search for cheap flight tickets and comparing multiple airlines rates at one go.

There're even online companies that offer luxury trips and vacation for people to choose from and it is even cheaper compared to what the travel agencies are offering.

How do they manage to do it? Of course they must have prior arrangement with these hotels and resorts negotiating the best prices, and as a return channelling huge volume of customers to them.

By joining this type of companies it helps to cut the profit made by the travel agencies and pass it back to the members a huge discount.
